Before Buying a Leo

Important things to consider:

Do your answers match the following questions?

Have you thought about this carefully? YES

Are you willing to change your vehicle if necessary? YES

Have you seen the full size of an adult Leonberger? YES

Have you got time to exercise a Leonberger? YES

Have you got time for training? YES

Are you prepared to socialise your dog from an early age? YES

Is your property adequately fenced? YES

Do you have sufficient space in your home? YES

Are you prepared to cope with a moulting Leo? YES

Are you prepared to cope with big muddy paws? YES

Can you afford to insure your Leo? YES

Can you afford to feed your Leo? YES

Are you prepared to be dominant over your dog? YES

 Are you house proud? NO

Will you mind when your Leo tips his water bowl over indoors? NO   (Tipping over the water bowl and laying in the water is a favourite trick of many Leos)

Remember, this is a long-term commitment on your part. Leonbergers are boisterous youngsters, full of bounce and mischief.  A couple of years effort with your young Leo will be well rewarded with a well balanced adult who is a pleasure to own. If not you have been warned. We are sorry if all this sounds a bit harsh, but its much harder for us when a Leonberger ends up in welfare. We just want you to know what you’re taking on and what a big part of your life will have to be committed to your Leo

Now read our F.A.Q. page as part of your consideration.
